Oh how he loves us!

“Give praise to the Lord for he is good, not because he is good to me, but because he is good.”

I do not think I will ever be able to utterly grasp my mind around the depth of love that God has for the world and for me. The bible describes to us the unconditional love of God. He loves us despite our failures, our sin, evilness, and selfishness. His love covers all our wrongs; it is never failing and never ending. This love was revealed in God himself paying the price for our faultiness. The love of God is perfect. The idea of having the creator of the universe, the Almighty loving me draws me near to love him. The thought of the Almighty demonstrating his love for me by dying for my wickedness draws me intimately to being in love with him. The love that God has for me goes to the overflow to the point which I am obligated and forced to share it with others because it is so overwhelming and captivating. Bernard writes in his first point of his four degrees of love that “God is the cause of our love…God must be loved first in order that we may love our neighbor in God.” His view echoes 1 John 4 as it advises us that “since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. Because of who God is and the love that he bestows upon us, we are in turn drawn to love him and share with others this fascinating love. We are loved to the point when we can say “Give praise to the Lord for he is good, not because he is good to me, but because he is good.”
