"In time we come to see that the really important action occurs in solitude."- Richard Foster
Henri J.M. Nouwen writes in his work “Making All Things New” that “a spiritual life requires discipline because we need to learn to listen to God, who constantly speaks but whom we seldom hear.” I had the great opportunity today of going to church an hour early today to spend some time alone in prayer with God. I would occasionally pause as I lifted up my prayers concerning myself and the church service. During those times of silence and contemplation, I believe God was speaking to me, I was reminded of Romans 8:28. Prayers that I had been requesting to God for the past weeks or so seemed to be answered but what I enjoyed most of my solitude was the quietness and stillness with just being alone with God. When I first began praying I assumed that words would be a challenge, but I soon discovered that when I did not have any words to say, that was the time when God was working and speaking. Doing this activity helped me tremendously in preparing my heart and mind for worship.
